As a common condition that affects people from throughout Australia, headaches are rarely pleasant. Whether they're there due to stress, too much sun or tension, your customers will probably seek an over-the-counter (OTC) treatment to find relief. If you want to diversify how you help your customers treat their headaches, here's what to look for from your OTC pharmaceutical supplier.

Paracetamol-Based Products

Paracetamol has been used to treat headaches since the end of the 19th century. One of the ways it works is that it blocks the pain signals that occur when the body releases prostaglandins. As a result, it's seen as a useful treatment for those who don't want to stop inflammatory processes, but they would like to stop the pains that come with them. As one of the most popular painkillers sold by OTC pharmaceutical suppliers, it comes with very few side effects. Unlike Ibuprofen, it doesn't increase a person's risk of stomach ulcers. It also won't make a bleeding disorder more likely, unlike aspirin. To diversify the selection you offer to your customers, choose short-acting and long-acting paracetamol-based products.

Products That Combine Caffeine and Aspirin

Although some people find that caffeine will trigger their headaches, it can prove useful when combined with aspirin. Some research demonstrates that caffeine acts as an adjunct for pharmaceutical products such as aspirin. It may increase its efficacy by up to 40 percent, so it could bring significant relief to your customers. It's thought that caffeine makes headaches less prominent as it can reduce the size of your blood vessels. As some headaches are worse when blood vessels enlarge before the pain begins, this can prove very useful indeed. Understandably, though, some of your customers won't like the idea of taking caffeine late in the day. As such, you should offer a combination of caffeine-based and caffeine-free aspirin products.

Anti-Sickness Medications

Some people find that their headaches come with the unwelcome addition of nausea and vomiting. If this is the case for your customers, they may want anti-sickness medications that provide relief. Solutions such as Promethazine and other antihistamines can ease nausea and vomiting, but they may also cause drowsiness. As such, if you're going to order these products from your OTC pharmaceutical supplier, you'll need to make yourself aware of which ones could cause drowsiness and warn your customers accordingly. Additionally, you may find that Promethazine is a pharmacist-only medication.

When ordering OTC pharmaceutical supplies to help your customers relieve headaches, always remember to offer a broad range of options that'll meet their individual needs.
